Charles M. Shumaker

Managing Partner

 

Charles M. Shumaker is the Managing Partner of the Firm. His practice focuses on real estate, corporate and business transactions and real estate development (including CEQA, land use and entitlement compliance). He represents many of the largest real estate stakeholders in Los Angeles and Southern California. Mr. Shumaker has been responsible for counseling high-rise, multifamily and single family home and retail developers including the Old Bank District Project for Gilmore and Associates, Broadway Project for Delson Investment as well as assisting in substantial redevelopment projects in a dozen jurisdictions. He represents some 40 restaurant and food service clients, including vendors to Trader Joes’ and national and international restaurant groups. A significant portion of his transactional practice is landlord and tenant leasing representation throughout California. He also counsels small and large entertainment production and ancillary service clients.

 

 

Mr. Shumaker is active in local government, health and welfare and cultural matters. He was a founding member of the Palos Verdes Library Foundation, has served as a member of the Rolling Hills Estates Parks Commission and Planning Commission and is a former trustee of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, he was the chairperson for "Yes on Measure R," a Los Angeles County Proposition (passed by 67% of voters), which is raising $40 billion for transportation infrastructure in the county. He has also acted as Treasurer for Yes on Measure J, the Coalition for School Reform and Level the playing Field 2010. Mr. Shumaker is also a board member and chairperson of the program committee for H.E.L.P. (Healthcare and Elder Law Programs Corporation), an award-winning nonprofit organization established by lawyers to provide programs and impartial advice on matters of concern to the elderly.
